Day 6 New York pt 3

Santas, Santas everywhere but not a present in sight. There was a Santa pub crawl today raising money for kids. There's been thousands of Santa's wandering all day in ever increasing states of inebriation (also the odd elf, penguin, Cookie Monster, yeti etc). Did a cruise of the Hudson River and saw the old lady. Came back to discover that the numbers of people on the street could in fact get crazier.
Why did I not pack my Santa suit?

Day 5 New York pt 2

What a different place in the morning. You can actually move!! We learned all about spies & the CIA today at the Discovery Centre - very interesting. Wandered around Times Square. Decided that the queue for 1/2 price broadway tickets might take longer than a show. Found the Rockefeller Tree along with lots of others. We went to Toys R Us which was so big it had its own T Rex and Ferris wheel. Just what every toy shop needs.
We explored far and wide, reckon we nearly did two blocks. Must be over a hundred people working in this town, always seems to be somebody about and if you pay them money they will stop and talk to you also. Strange place really.

Day 4 New York

Super early start (4am - who knew there was such a time) to catch the plane. Sunny California wasn't so sunny this morning. Rained all night. Got to see the Grand Canyon. The taxi ride from Newark was interesting. Everyone changing lanes right, left and centre. Just crazy chaos. Stacks of people everywhere. Sledge's note on Grand Canyon - I find it hard to believe that Environment Waikato is worried about soil quality when you see erosion like that.

Day 3 Huntington Beach

A day at the beach. Four blocks isn't far, a nice flat walk to get bus tickets (some struggled). Blocks are actually quite large here. Please note it only rains three days a year in L.A. So it seemed right we go to the beach because it nearly rained. Wipers on full in the bus "Do you find it difficult driving in the rain?" Comments from passengers and the drops didn't even touch on the pavement. I think everybody must have three cars or more. We drove two hours on the bus and only saw fast food or used car outlets. We even went on small roads with only four lanes. Huge wide beach and more beach volleyball courts than in all of NZ. Real laid back surf culture now. Would be chaos in summer.

Day 2 Disney

Got up first thing and waited for everyone to get ready (traveling with women is easy). We made it for lunch. Elyne had multiple teacup and Buzz Lightyear rides. Kathy and I had multiple railroad rides. Got Maureen on the Matterhorn (didn't tell her we were queuing). Lol. Waited for the fireworks and got bonus snow afterwards.

Anaheim, California

We got into LA around 10.30am to a beautiful sunny warm day with smog so bad near the airport that you couldn't see the hills behind the city. The Hollywood sign was nowhere to be seen. We hit the local outlet mall after checking into the motel. Really cheap cool clothes. Went to the Rainforest Cafe for dinner and Elyne had a raspberry lemonade breeze. She said it was soo good and hurt soo bad.
